News from the Votemaster

Today is M-day. It doesn't mean anything for the Democrats, but it could:

      - Knock Mitt Romney out of the race
      - Confirm John McCain's new status as front runner
      - Suddenly propel Mike Huckabee into the lead

Other outcomes are unlikely. If Romney wins, he'll live to fight another day, probably this Saturday in particular. Lots of people in the GOP establishment are rooting for Romney since they dislike McCain on taxes, immigration, campaign finance, and for his general irascibility and hot temper. Huckabee they can't stand at all because he practices what they preach.

Here are the Michigan polls since Jan. 9. It looks pretty close between McCain and Romney.

State Pollster End date Giuliani McCain Romney Thompson Huckabee
Michigan Zogby Jan. 13 6% 27% 24% 5% 15%
Michigan Mitchell Res. Jan. 13 7% 27% 29% 4% 12%
Michigan EPIC/MRA Jan. 12 6% 27% 26% 5% 19%
Michigan Mason-Dixon Jan. 11 6% 22% 30% 7% 17%

Michigan ARG Jan. 11 5% 34% 27% 4% 15%
Michigan Rasmussen Jan. 9 6% 25% 26% 9% 17%

We also have a few new polls for other states. Here they are, but don't take them too seriously yet because the Michigan results could change things, at least for the Republicans.
