News from the Votemaster
CQ Politics has put up a
list
telling how much each of the 435 members
of the House has raised, spent, and has in the bank.
The top 5 fundraisers are Charlie Rangel (D-NY), Steny Hoyer (D-MD),
Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), James Clyburn (D-SC), and Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Rangel is a 19-term congressman from Harlem and chairman of the powerful
Ways and Means committee, which writes the nation's tax laws. He doesn't
need the money. Hoyer and Pelosi are the House leaders and Clyburn is a
living legend. The surprise here is Kirsten Gillibrand, a freshman from
a Republican district. What is even more surprising is that quite a
few of the Democratic freshman have already raised huge amounts of money,
including Ron Klein (D-FL), Pat Murphy (D-PA), Joe Sestak (D-PA),
Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), Tim Mahoney (D-FL), and Jerry McNerny (D-CA).
these are in the top 20, with even McNerny raising $823,000. The median
for all House members is about $250,000. These freshman are going to be
tough to dislodge and such large hauls are going to discourage
Republican challengers.
Below are the current polls.
