Happy Independence Day!

It is the Fourth of July, which means that our American readers, at very least, will have the day off, and perhaps will have plans involving things like grilled meats and beer.

The holiday has also thrown something of a double wrench into our general operations. First, because things worked out to be weekend—regular day—holiday, nearly everyone took Monday off and there was very little political news yesterday. That's wrench one.

Wrench two is that we foresaw the content chasm, and had material ready. But, due to some computer issues, that material is currently not accessible. The staff dachshunds had to be taken out to the high desert in order to spare them the discomfort of urban fireworks displays, and the USB drive that had the necessary files literally melted in the 100+ degree weather.

So, we can't really give you much to read today. However, we thought we might give you something to DO, if you have a few minutes here and there during the day today. It is... a politically themed scavenger hunt. You can submit one item, or two, or all eight, as you see fit. We'll run the best answers tomorrow. Here are the things to look for:

  1. The single photograph or image that best encapsulates the Trump presidency. (Submit here)
  2. Something that would make a terrible Christmas gift for Joe Biden. (Submit here)
  3. A book that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would never, ever read. (Submit here)
  4. A t-shirt that would be very apropos for Chief Justice John Roberts to wear. (Submit here)
  5. The wisest, most insightful, or most pithy quote ever to be uttered by a politician or political figure (need not be limited to Americans). (Submit here)
  6. The worst bumper sticker, button, yard sign or other campaign-related ephemera in U.S. history. (Submit here)
  7. A portrayal of a key figure in U.S. history—image, song, verse, book, etc.—that is even more ridiculous than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. (Submit here)
  8. This isn't exactly a scavenger hunt type question, but we're going with it anyhow. Finish this joke: "Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis and Hillary Clinton walk into a bar..." (Submit here)

We've put e-mail links for each question; that will make it easier to sort through the responses. That said, if you want to submit multiple responses in the same e-mail, you can do so with this link. For those questions that are answered with an image, you can either attach or you can include a link. And whether you send in one e-mail or several, please do remember to include your initials and city so we can give credit where credit is due.

We hope this is of interest to many readers, and that we get lots of good responses. (V & Z)
