News from the Votemaster
Here are the current polls. What is interesting is the state of Iowa.
It is well known that the Iowa voters take their job of selecting the
next President very seriously and most voters don't really decide who
to vote for until close to caucus day. This fact means that the polls
this far out are not terribly meaningful, in truth. In the past month
or so, Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney were leading there, but that is
starting to change. The Democratic race is getting much tighter.
Clinton is still somewhat ahead, but her lead is shrinking. Any one of the
top three (Clinton, Obama, Edwards) could yet win Iowa.
The Republican side is even more fluid, with the rise of Mike Huckabee.
In the NY Times poll ending Nov. 11, Giuliani, McCain, Romney, Thompson,
and Huckabee were all polling between 13% and 17%, a five-way statistical
tie. In the ARG poll ending Nov. 14, Romney is leading and Huckabee is
second. It is easily conceivable that the religious right has finally
found their boy--Mike Huckabee. If so, Huckabee could win Iowa and be a
formiddable contender in South Carolina, but it is hard to see him
doing well in crusty New Hampshire or the big states that vote on Feb. 5.
Still, a Huckabee win in Iowa could really shake things up.
