News from the Votemaster

Time Magazine reports that conservatives are dismayed with the likely choices for Republican nominee for President in 2008. From their point of view, here are the front runners and their liabilities:

  • Rudy Giuiliani: twice divorced due to public adultery; pro-choice, pro-gay, anti-gun
  • John McCain: once divorced, has had "wrong" stance on taxes, immigration, gay marriage amendment
  • Mitt Romney: was pro-choice, pro-gay rights when running in Massachusetts
  • Sam Brownback: ideologically fine, but has electability issues
  • George Allen: couldn't even win his own state in 2006

As a result, a lot of conservatives are looking for a dark horse like Mike Huckabee, Tommy Thompson, or maybe even Newt Gingrich. Of course, the Democratic candidates also have a lot of baggage, starting with Hillary Clinton, who half the country already hates, but the Time story didn't go into the Democratic candidates. For my round-up of the candidates in both parties, click here. (Thanks to Political Wire for pointing out this story.)

This page is the prototype for 2008. The data and map will refer to previous elections until serious polls begin in 2008. The blog will be updated when there is interesting news about the 2008 races.
